Life is a roller coaster

Life is a roller coaster
Although most of us
Start off thinking
It's a carousel

And then they hit us
The unexpected twists and turns
So confusing
Breathtaking climbs
That leave us in awe
Petrifying drops
That leave us bruised and bleeding

At first
We try to figure out
What's happening
Try to calculate the Twists
Control them
We're still excited by the climbs
And shriek in terror
At the sudden drops
Crying from the pain of our wounds

Then, after a while
We stop caring
And just bump along
Vaguely curious
Where the next turn will land us
We look on as we climb
No longer surprised when we drop
We nurse our wounds
In silence
No longer able to cry

But there comes a time
When we learn
The art of happiness
Of resilience
And of trust

We rise above our roller coaster
And finally acknowledge
That there's Someone there
Landing us
In the places
We're meant to go
We appreciate the climbs
Enjoy the scenic views
So that when we drop
They're etched into our hearts
And keep us going

And although our innocence is long gone
And we don't shriek and cry
Our silence
Is of a different kind
It's the silence
Of maturity
Acceptance
And trust
